Activities Around the Lodge
There are several activities that can be enjoyed in and around the lodge. Being situated on at the junction of two creeks and the Sibun River and resting in the foothills of the Maya Mountains, Sleeping Giant is a dream come true for birders, naturalists and hikers.
SIBUN RIVER
The Sibun River is right on our door step less than 100 yards from the main lodge building. The river runs year round and the water is very clear except in periods of heavy rainfall. There is an excellent swimming area near to the lodge. We offer free use of our inflatable kayaks and inner tubes for our guest's enjoyment.

HIKING
We are next door to a large citrus farm that runs along a narrow valley deep into the Sibun Forest Reserve. The creek and the transition zone between the jungle and the open citrus is a great attraction for a large variety of birds and animals. The farm itself has over 10 miles of roads to explore. Or you may choose to hike up the Maya Creek bed.
Another option is our Toucan Jungle Trail with over 60 species of plants identified. The trail climbs up to a lookout 300 feet above the valley floor. From there you have a spectacular 270 degree view including a wonderful view up the Sibun River Valley Gorge. Besides offering an excellent chance of seeing Toucans and various other birds, there are several other signs of animal life. This trail can be enjoyed as a self guided trip but we recommend taking one of our guided tours (US$15 per person). Our guides can point out several details and provide explanations for a much more enriching experience.
Finally we have a second lookout area 350 feet above the lodge. You get there by following a half mile open road. The hiking is a little easier and the open areas allow for excellent bird watching. And of course the view from the top is breath taking.

BIRD WATCHING
(US$35.00 per person)
Sleeping Giant has some of Belize's best bird watching right at its doorstep. We recommend our guided morning bird watching tour that begins at dawn and runs through to around 7:30 am. This is the period of time when the birds are most active. A wide variety of birds can be seen as we move from the river side to the transition zones and into the jungle.

JUNGLE NIGHT HIKE
(US$30.00 per person)
The Sleeping Giant jungle is habitat for an incredible variety of fauna. This wildlife adventure begins in the early evening with local bushmen as guides. Walk through the jungle in search of many of the elusive animals that feed under the cover of darkness such as howler and spider monkeys, gibnut, kinkajou, wild boar, deer, quash, armadillo, tarantulas, scorpions, leaf-cutter ants and of course snakes!
